Turco in Italia, Sinfonia (McAlister)

Gioacchino Rossini's opera “Il turco in Italia” was composed in 1814 and ranks among his early masterworks of opera buffa. The overture — characteristically for Rossini, a self-contained and distinctive introduction — reflects the lively, witty atmosphere of the buffa tradition: sparkling rhythms, elegant melody, and that unmistakable energy which made the composer a favourite of European opera audiences while still a young man.
