Version of the grand song rhapsody for voice and orchestra by Werner Dittmann

Franz Liszt ranks among the most formative figures in nineteenth-century Romantic music — equally pioneering as a pianist, conductor, and composer. Alongside his orchestral and pianistic works, he produced an extensive body of songs that ranges stylistically from intimate lyricism to grand dramatic gesture. “Die Macht der Musik” stands as a prime example of Liszt's ability to translate poetic ideas into an expansive, harmonically bold musical language.

The work belongs to the genre of the German art song, which Liszt approached with characteristic independence: where other composers cultivated chamber-music intimacy, he tended toward an orchestral breadth that embeds even the voice itself within a larger sonic cosmos. The melodic writing is singable and expressive, while the harmony moves through those floating, chromatically tinged regions that anticipate Liszt's late style.

In the version for voice and orchestra, the piece unfolds its full symphonic scope. Liszt's orchestration — distinguished by luminous wind colours and flowing string textures — lends the work a dimension that reaches beyond the concert halls of the nineteenth century and continues to make a powerful impression to this day.
